Updated 10 September 2026: this article originally said BNPL data was about to enter the UAE credit system. That future tense is now stale.
Etihad Credit Bureau announced that account information from Tabby and Tamara would be incorporated into UAE credit reports from July 2026, including relevant historical transactions. The bureau’s current data-correction portal also lists both Tabby LLC and Tamara FZE among information providers.
| THE ROBIUS READ: Treat BNPL as credit, because the formal UAE credit system now does. Tabby and Tamara data can appear in Etihad Credit Bureau records. That does not mean Robius can tell you exactly how one late instalment or one perfectly paid plan changes your score — Etihad Credit Bureau does not publish a simple points formula for BNPL. The practical rule is safer: check your own report, correct errors through the bureau process, and assume repayment behaviour can matter when a lender assesses your broader credit profile. |
What Changed in July 2026
Etihad Credit Bureau said account information from BNPL providers Tabby and Tamara would be added to UAE credit reports from July 2026. The announcement also said relevant historical transactions would be included.
That is materially different from the old Robius article, which described BNPL reporting as a future system whose mechanics had not yet arrived.
The bureau’s current support portal provides another live signal: both Tabby LLC and Tamara FZE appear in the list of information providers whose data can be the subject of a credit-report correction request.
Tabby and Tamara Now Say This in Their Own Disclosures
Tabby’s current UAE consent language authorises Tabby LLC to obtain a customer’s Etihad Credit Bureau report for creditworthiness assessment and to share credit information with the bureau in line with applicable law and regulation.
Tamara’s current UAE Key Fact Statement describes BNPL as a form of credit and warns that missed or late payments may be reported to credit-reference agencies and could affect a customer’s credit score and future ability to borrow.
Those disclosures are more useful than the old idea that BNPL behaviour stayed mostly inside each app unless an account went to collections.
What We Should Not Pretend to Know
The original article went too far in the other direction too. It said disciplined BNPL use would help thin-file consumers build a score and that missed instalments and stacked plans would start “costing points.”
That is plausible credit-risk logic, but Robius does not have a published Etihad Credit Bureau formula showing how many points a BNPL account adds or subtracts, how utilisation across several plans is weighted, or how different providers and repayment patterns are treated.
So the defensible statement is narrower: BNPL account and repayment information is now part of the formal credit-information environment, and lenders may use credit reports and scores when assessing applications. The exact impact depends on the bureau model and the lender’s own underwriting.
Historical Data Matters
The July announcement said relevant historical transactions would be incorporated. That means a user should not assume only purchases made after the reporting launch can appear.
If your credit report contains a BNPL entry you believe is inaccurate, Etihad Credit Bureau’s current correction process directs the request to the relevant information provider. The bureau says information providers are required under CBUAE regulations to respond to correction requests within the applicable regulatory timeline.
What This Means Before a Mortgage, Loan or Credit Card Application
- Check your own credit report: do not assume BNPL is invisible because it is not a traditional bank loan.
- Clear genuine overdue instalments: unpaid credit obligations can matter in an affordability and risk assessment.
- Correct errors: use Etihad Credit Bureau’s formal data-correction route if an account, balance or repayment status is wrong.
- Do not game the score: Robius does not recommend opening BNPL plans merely to “build credit” because the exact scoring effect is not publicly disclosed.
- Look at total obligations: lenders assess affordability using more than one product or one score.
BNPL Is Also More Clearly Regulated as Credit
The reporting change sits alongside the wider formalisation of BNPL in the UAE. Current Tabby and Tamara disclosures describe their pay-later products as credit obligations rather than merely payment conveniences.
That matters for consumer behaviour. Splitting a purchase into instalments can feel different from taking a loan, but the obligation still needs to be repaid according to the agreed schedule and can now form part of the customer’s formal credit record.
The Bottom Line
The headline changed from “about to” to already happening. Tabby and Tamara account information began entering UAE credit reports from July 2026, with relevant historical transactions included.
What remains unknown publicly is the precise score mathematics. Robius therefore would not promise that good BNPL behaviour automatically builds your score or claim that one late payment automatically costs a fixed number of points.
The practical advice is simpler: treat BNPL like credit, pay according to the contract, check your report before a major borrowing application and correct anything inaccurate.
